THE UNSEEN MUSEUM PRESENTS THE YOUTH OF MANTINIA
Every year since 2015, visitors to the National Archaeological Museum have the opportunity to see rare treasures hidden away in the museum’s storerooms for a limited amount of time. This year, the statue of the Youth of Mantineia is on display for three months. The statue was discovered in 1886 and portrays a beardless youth in motion. He is probably young Antinous, a favourite of the emperor Hadrian. The statue is dated around AD 130 – 140.
